Flairs, Widgets, Gifts – Do I Need a New Dictionary for Social Networking?

Social networking has been the global consumer phenomenon of the last several months. Two-thirds of the world’s Internet population visits a social network or blogging site, and the sector now accounts for almost 10% of all Internet time. “Member Communities” have overtaken personal email to become the world’s fourth most popular online sector after search, portals and PC software applications.

If you are feeling a little lost, below are some fun facts and useful applications for your business page.

Facebook Facts:

  • The average Facebook user has 120 friends. The potential for your page growth and distribution is dependent on these users sharing your page with their friends after becoming fans of your page. Getting fans to share your page is the key to success.
  • More than two-thirds of Facebook users are outside of college. That means two-thirds of the people you will reach are working professionals, homemakers and retirees.
  • More than 4 million users become fans of pages daily.
  • More than 8,000 websites have implemented Facebook Connect since its general availability in December 2008.
  • Facebook Connect is the next iteration of Facebook Platform that allows users to "connect" their Facebook identity, friends and privacy to any site.
  • Facebook Flair is a great way for corporations, organizations and groups to excite brand enthusiasm at little or no cost (depending on who designs them).

Facebook:
