Mercury Records: O Brother, Where Art Thou? (CD)
Mercury Records hired Aristotle to design an enhanced CD-ROM (a CD with an interactive feature and the movie soundtrack) for the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou?. Mercury wanted something “totally different” that would help sell the unique soundtrack of folk and traditional bluegrass music. This enhanced CD includes an entertaining introductory screen, a 3D animated screensaver, and interactive e jukebox and a link to the movie and websites. The CD integrates the interactive components and the music with the sense of humor and wit that the movie also demonstrated. Mercury wanted to target not only those who knew the superior work of the Cohen Brothers but also the growing young audience of bluegrass music enthusiasts.
Trade journals reported that the enhanced CD was a huge success and that record stores around the southern region were sold out for weeks. Aristotle received an ADDY Award, the highest award possible in its category, for the presentation and design as well as the IABC Bronze Quill award for the CDs communication of the movie's message.
